Cambridge United earned their first league away win since Bonfire Night after a fine battling team performance at AFC Telford.
At the end of a first half laden with chances for both sides Kevin Roberts continued his recent run of goalscoring form, steering home Rossi Jarvis' corner in stoppage to give Jez George's side the lead.
The right back, who had netted one heavily deflected goal in over seventy games for the club, has now scored in three of his last four outings. Enraged by the perceived injustice at the award of the corner from which The U's scored, Telford started the second half well and equalised through Chris Sharp's close range volley on fifty-three minutes.
Undeterred, United's own reaction was swift, going ahead again within three minutes. Michael Gash, exemplary on his return from injury, held the ball up to allow reinforcements to join the fray before finding Ashley Carew, whose ball into the box allowed Luke Berry to tee up Tom Shaw. The midfielder found space to turn and mete a clinical left footed effort across Ryan Young and into the corner.
The defence held firm over the remaining thirty-five minutes, plus five minutes of added time, despite the loss of Josh Coulson twenty minutes from the end. Rory McAuley stepped in for his first appearance in almost two months, aiding the immense Blaine Hudson to see time out and seal United's first league double of the season.
The win lifts The U's to seventh, three points outside the playoffs. The side's next action is next Saturday at home to Tamworth, who sit four points above Telford.

It's a fimiliar line-up for the U's. Michael Gash makes a welcome return to the starting 11, while Adam Marriott
drops to the bench to make way for Rossi Jarvis (suggesting a return to a 4-5-1 formation). There's also a return for Rory McAuley, who has to settle for a place on the bench. Manager Jez George will be looking for an improved performance compared to the recent FA Trophy match against Telford, with a similarly victorious result to go with it.
